The Meetings and Spiritual Exercise of the Local Church

Praising

6. Praising

Praising the Lord is one of the most effective and enjoyable ways to release our spirit in our worship to God (Psa. 150). In this section, Watchman Nee and Witness Lee show why it is necessary for the believers to praise the Lord in the local churches.

Below, Witness Lee refers to the Psalms in commenting on the necessary and joyful matter of praising the Lord in the meetings of the local churches:

In Psalm 66:13 the Psalmist says, “I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows.” The burnt offerings are the praises of Christ. The Lord has caused us to dwell in His courts, and now we may come to the house of God with praises of Christ as an offering. We learn to offer these praises as offerings to God. In all the local churches we need to be trained to praise Him that we may always have praise concerning Christ as an offering to God.

(Witness Lee, Christ and the Church, 97)

Again, Witness Lee says, regarding praising the Lord in His house:

“Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be praising thee all the day long. Selah” (v. 4). Henceforth, whenever we meet together, we must spend much time in praising….“They will be praising thee all the day long.” Learn to praise Him.

(Witness Lee, Christ and the Church, 149)
